Any major physical change will change who is attracted to a person and who is not. Both growing and cutting hair are known to do this, as are major changes in weight. Because I wear long hair, in the clubs there are quite a few guys who simply are NOT interested in me. If I were to cut my hair off, they might then find me attractive but others who find me attractive now (including some who look like I do presumably) would not. Nobody can help who they are or are not attracted to.
A single guy can change things around with little more consequence than changing which guys he will be dating, but a voluntary unilateral change by someone in a managamous situation is a hell of a lot to ask. I've even heard of divorces over weight gain, something people have some control over but nowhere near as much as over hair length. I've always chosen to be single, but for other reasons.
If I hide my hair I become quite ordinary looking, something I have exploited a few times when my activist work required a stealth mission. I would never cut it off, but stuffing all of it under a hat is good for a quick disguise and makes me almost impossible for most to recognize. In other words, it is a radical change of appearance.
